An 18 year old woman from Yonkers, NY was tragically killed over the weekend in a wakeboarding accident. The soon-to-be college student was riding a wakeboard behind a motorboat on Lake Lillinonah, which is in Newtown Connecticut. Nicholette R. Murray's towrope became tangled up in the propeller of the motorboat.
Once entangled, Murray also became caught in the line and she was dragged into the back of the boat. The medical examiner's office in Connecticut has ruled the death as an accidental drowning. They would not release further details on the injuries she sustained.
Murray was described as being with friends and family while on the boat. Identification was not made as to who was on the boat nor was the driver of the boat indicated. The accident occurred around 5pm on Saturday. Murray was taken to the Danbury Hospital and pronounced dead about an hour later by medical personnel.
Murray was scheduled to start her first semester of college in just a few weeks. She was enrolled in the 2015 class of City College of New York. She was looking to major in architecture technology and was a member of her high school's National Honor Society.
The damned up Lake Lillinonah is part of the Housatonic River. It is a popular spot for boaters and water sports.
