Posted on Jun 28, 2011

Shortly after departing from Westchester County Airport, north of New York City- a Cessna 210 crashed, killing all four people on board. As reported by the Associated Press on June 18, 2011 the plane "took off from the airport shortly after 1 p.m., bound for Montauk, about 100 miles east, Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Holly Baker said."

After departure, the pilot of the Cessna radioed into the airport advising he would be returning, unfortunately the plane hit the ground, bursting into flames before reaching the runway. The crash occurred only two minutes after take-off. The fire was intensified by jet fuel according to local fireman who arrived on the scene shortly after the crash.

When first reports about the crash were published, the victims had not been identified. Since that time, a spokesman for the New York City's department of environmental protection has named Keith Weiner- 63, Lisa Weiner -51, Isabel Weiner -14, Lucy Walsh- 14. This according to an article published by LoHud.com which has also reported that the cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board. The cause of the accident is unknown.

The Department of Environmental Protection for the city of New York will be in charge of the investigation due to the city's involvement as owner of the land and reservoirs surrounding the crash site. It is believed the crash has not impacted the drinking water of Westchester residents who receive their water from neighboring reservoirs.

The pilot has not been identified, however the company from which the plane was based has stated he "was a longtime customer". The aircraft was registered to Wein-Air Aviation Ltd, for which no company phone number is listed.
