The Daily News has reported that A New York Department of Transportation worker was killed in an on-the-job accident this week while assisting with a road construction project in Queens.
The man, 59-year-old Errol Wilson, was working to pave the Cross Island Parkway near Northern Boulevard in Queens at the time of the fatal worker accident. According to local news sources, the man was behind a truck and directing the truck’s driver when the driver lost sight of the man and then backed over him with the truck. The truck driver and Wilson’s co-worker, 46-year-old Lloyd Daley, said that he lost sight of the man in his rearview mirror and that the construction site death was an accident. Investigators agree and say that Daley was sober and that the incident was most probably an accident.
Wilson’s family, however, wants to know more about the fatal construction site accident and referred to Daley as “careless.” Wilson’s daughter Tanya said that they want justice to be served. The work accident is still under investigation, though officials say that Daley will likely not be charged with a crime.
New York City Mayor Bloomberg personally phone Wilson’s wife, Valerie White, to give his condolences regarding her loss.
