Posted on Jul 05, 2011

A New York City highway worker was killed on the job when a truck accidentally backed over him on a jobsite. Errol Wilson, 59, a veteran employee of the NY Department of Transportation was repaving the Cross Island Parkway in Queens when the incident occurred.

According the report, coworker Lloyd Daley was driving a giant Mack truck when he backed up over Wilson and crushed him to death. Wilson was directing the Daley when the driver reportedly lost his view of Wilson at the back of the vehicle. The NYPD who is investigating the accident does not expect to charge Daley with any crime and stated that Daley was sober at the time of the incident.

Wilson had worked for the New York Department of Transportation for nearly twenty years before his death. He received many accolades and certificates in appreciation of his hard work. NY Mayor Bloomberg even phone in his condolences to the Wilson family who were reported to be grief-stricken over the loss of their husband and father. Wilson was heralded by NY Department of Transportation as being a ‘veteran of the Roadway Repair and Maintenance Division, one of our best workers and a member of the DOT family' by DOT Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan.

Truck accidents on the job are not uncommon in workers compensation claims despite attention to safety measures and training. Fatalities resulting from such on the job accidents often leave the families of those lost suffering emotionally and struggling financially.
