New York Car Accidents Injure Pedestrians and Kill Motorcyclist

Posted on Oct 10, 2011

Car accidents remain a common cause for personal injuries and death in New York. Last Sunday afternoon in Yonkers, a woman was hit by a car at the corner of Wakefield Avenue and Bronx River Road around 1 in the afternoon. She was taken to the Bronx Jacobi Medical Center with injuries.

On the same day, another pedestrian was hit near the entrance to the Hutchinson River Parkway on Lincoln Avenue in Purchase, New York. This pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized - but charges were not filed against the driver.

Last Friday, a 46 year old Wappingers Falls motorcyclist was killed when he was thrown from his motorcycle on Route 52. Joseph Sroka was traveling north on Route 52 - and a car two vehicles ahead of him turned right into the Hess parking lot - which caused the car directly in front of Sroka to skid to a stop. Sroka attempted to avoid hitting the vehicle in front of him, lost control and was thrown from the bike. He was taken to Putnam Hospital Center after the traffic accident and pronoused dead. The driver of the vehicle turning into the Hess parking lot was summoned for driving with a suspended registration; the driver of the vehicle in front of Sroka was charged because they were following too closely.
