A New Rochelle man was fatally injured when a passing car ran him over after he was tossed from his motorcycle in Manhattan early Saturday. Police said 22 year old Eliyyas Northern was the driver of the car that fatally ran over Kastriot Prelaj.
The vehicle that initially caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the cycle fled the scene and the driver is still at large. Northern stopped after making contact with the victim and was charged by police with drunk driving. A 21 year old passenger in Northern's vehicle was not identified by police but was taken to Bellevue Hospital and later listed in stable condition.
Prelaj was stopped at a red light around 4:30 am when a white Honda hit the motorcycle, causing Prelaj to be thrown from the bike. Northern then ran him over when the light turned green. Prelaj was pronounced dead at Roosevelt Hospital.
The incident occurred at the corner of 46th Street and 12th Avenue in Midtown North. Police are still in search of the driver of the white Honda that left the scene
