A 39-year-old Manhattan woman is permanently scarred after going in for an elective facial treatment for cosmetic reasons. The woman, who was looking for a treatment that would even out her skin tone, was left with permanent red stripes on both sides of her face after an assistant helped with her procedure.
The woman, who says that her face is important both to her interior design business and to her husband’s career at Goldman Sacs, is suing New York Dermatology Group as well as the group’s founder, Dr. David Anthony Colbert. The woman, Jennifer Esposito, expected Colbert was going to do the procedure, but when she arrived for her appointment, it was handed off to an inexperienced technician who botched the job. Esposito realized what had happened as soon as she left the clinic.
Now Esposito has suffered damage to her skin that will not allow her to ever expose her face to the sun again. In addition, she has lost the pigment-producing cells in her face. She also believes that her business and her husband’s career will be harmed by what has happened to her face in the wake of the skin treatment.
Esposito is suing the group for New York medical malpractice and for civil battery – for an undisclosed amount of money. She says that she hopes the NYC medical malpractice lawsuit will prevent other women from suffering the permanent damage and pain that she has endured.
The cosmetic surgery doctor has denied that mistakes were made.
