

A freak accident in Port Chester took the life of a woman and left her mother injured. The accident occurred on i-95 just below the 287 underpass. Police have released information concerning the accident that claimed the life of 62 year old Adele Mancuso.
Mancuso was driving a Chevy Cavalier and her 82 year old mother, Constance Casalina was a passenger. A flat bed tractor trailer was traveling in the opposite direction as it approached Exit 21 ramp. Two of the trucks rear wheels fell off the back of the trailer from the right side. The wheels hit the guard rail and subsequently went airborne. They crossed all three lanes of traffic and hit Mancuso's Chevrolet.
One of the wheels was estimate to travel 150 feet in the air before landing on the hood of the Chevy. As a result, the windshield blew out and the frame of the vehicle was mangled. Mancuso was killed instantaneously while her mother sustained injuries and was transported to Stamford Hospital.
The tractor trailer did not stop and police do not know if the driver was aware he even lost the wheels. The tractor trailer was an 18-wheeler. The police investigators believe they know who the driver is as well as the name of the trucking company the driver worked for. The driver was brought in to answer investigators questions.
Police believe the accident was indeed a freak occurrence and that all drivers were following the laws of the road at the time of the accident.
