Driver Injured In Thruway Accident Involving Overturned Tractor Trailer

Accidents involving motor vehicles pose a hazard to all drivers. Those in immediate danger are generally the individuals in the vehicles involved, however it is not uncommon for a chain reaction of accidents to occur. When one or more of the vehicles involved in an accident is a tractor trailer, the chances of injury or death increase dramatically.

Any accident involving a tractor trailer can result in personal injuries as well as damage of property. Due to the sheer mass of this larger vehicle plus the contents being transported, accidents involving tractor trailers often close highways for hours while first responders treat accident victims and the area is cleared of debris.

This was the case on June 13^th when two tractor trailers collided in the early morning hours. As stated by the NYPost.com, "Sgt. Michael Kopp of the state police Thruway detail says a tandem truck hauling milk cartons and another tractor trailer crashed in the southbound lanes around 2:40 a.m. Kopps says the tandem truck overturned, blocking the southbound lanes, while the other truck went down an embankment. He says one of the drivers suffered minor injuries."

The crash closed the highway for several hours until early Monday morning when only the left lane of Interstate 87 remained closed. Accidents involving overturned tractor trailers often draw the attention of other drivers. Distracted drivers are often responsible for triggering separate accidents where one or more additional vehicles become involved. In other situations, a lengthy delay may test the patience of other drivers who find themselves stuck on the highway for long periods of time.

No one can predict when or where an accident will occur, however the reaction of drivers and passersby can prevent additional injuries. Drivers are reminded to always pay attention to their surroundings, especially in slow moving traffic to avoid accidents.
