When 18 year old driver, Karl Allen Christman, jerked the wheel to avoid a pile of leaves in the road, he lost control of his 1994 Jeep SUV and it rolled over in the street. It was about 9:00pm on December 18th, and it’s possible the driver was not sure what was in the road, so instinct to swerve was likely to have kicked in. No charges have been filed, and the car accident remains under investigation.
There were a total of 7 people in the Jeep, ranging in ages between 17 and 28 years old. Five of the passengers including the driver, were taken to Putnam Hospital Center for non-life threatening injuries, while the other two passengers declined medical care at the scene.
Both Brewster and Putnam Lake Fire Departments and ambulances responded to the scene due to the number of potential injuries involved in the rollover on Prospect Street.
