Ambassador’s Daughter Killed In Fall From NYC High Rise

Posted on Sep 18, 2010

The teenaged daughter of the United States Ambassador to Thailand was killed in a fall accident from a New York City high rise last week.

According to the New York Times, 17-year-old Nicole John was killed in a 22-story fall near the Avenue of the America, apparently during a late-night party. The girl had just recently moved to Manhattan to attend Parsons The New School For Design in Union Square – in fact, her father, Eric John, had dropped her off in the city just weeks before to attend the school.

Before moving into the dorms at Parsons, Nicole had lived in Bangkok where her father represented the United States in Thailand. The girl’s body was found on the third floor landing of Herald Towers. NYC Police say that she had been at a nightclub in the meatpacking district before going to an after party at the home of 25-year-old Ilan Nassimi. Police have charged Nassimi for unlawfully dealing with a child. While Nassami had alcohol in his apartment, it is unclear if John was drinking at the apartment on the night of the accident. She used a fake ID to drink alcohol at the club earlier in the evening.

Witnesses say that John had taken off her shoes and climbed into an open window on the night of the party, though no one is sure of how the girl fell. Some think she was taking a picture, since a camera was found with the body, but others think she might have believed she was stepping onto a terrace outside.
