While playing at a popular family park near the Hudson River, watching for boats with a group of children, a 9 year old girl discovered a woman floating in the Hudson River about 12:30pm on October 9th. The child's father, Jermaine Roberts, called the police. Police arrived on the scene at Emeline Park at 12:57pm and proceeded to retrive the victim assisted by the Rockland County Sheriff Department's Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The body was taken to the Rockland County Medical Examiner at 4:15pm.
The woman was identified as Joanne DeLoatch, a 66 year old resident of the near by Green Hills assisted living facility. Police believe the cause of death is either accidental or medical, and do not believe there is anything suspicious about the case, but more will be determined after the results come back from the autopsy. The staff of Green Hills report last seeing DeLoatch on Sunday between 10:30 and 11am, and say that the residents frequent Emeline Park regularly as it is within walking distance.
