Polish passengers on a bus headed down New York's Interstate 81 from Niagara Falls were a lucky bunch of people. All 30 passengers survived a bus crash last Wednesday where the entire vehicle left the roadside and traveled down a 80 foot embankment, coming to rest on the bus roof in a gully.
While there were injuries, none of the passengers who were vacationing from Poland were killed. One woman was trapped beneath the bus for more than an hour until she could be rescued. The trapped woman was able to escape with injuries that were not serious. All of the other passengers were able to leave the bus on their own without rescue assistance.
The bus was transporting the vacationers from Niagara Falls to Trenton NJ. The cause of the bus accident is said to be weather-related, due to the slick roads and the bus driver traveling too fast for weather conditions. At the time of the accident, about a half-inch of standing water was on the road. Of the 30 passengers, 19 people went to the hospital for evaluation. The woman trapped under the bus had the most serious injuries of everyone on board.
The bus is owned by Princeton Holdings, Inc which does business as Amerpol Tours based in Morrisville, PA. There was no additional information on whether the bus driver was issued citations in the crash, which occurred around 7:10 pm during a torrential rainstorm in the area near Whitney Point, NY.
