Stroke Misdiagnosis | Stroke Wrong Diagnosis | New York Medical Malpractice

A stroke is often a life-changing medical issue that can lead to permanent disability, memory problems, and other health problems. However, with a correct diagnosis, stroke sufferers can be largely rehabilitated, treated, and helped. Unfortunately, instances of stroke are often misdiagnosed, especially in the young and the elderly. In the young, strokes are somewhat rare and doctors often don't think to test for them. In older patients, strokes can often be misinterpreted as other diseases associated with aging.

Many treatments for strokes are extremely time-sensitive, making a correct diagnosis extremely important.

Here are some examples of stroke misdiagnosis:

· An otherwise healthy 29-year-old man suffered from several strokes before being correctly diagnosed. Multiple doctors diagnosed him with a brain tumor, migraines, and a hole in his heart.

· A man went to his doctor complaining of weakness on his left side, fatigue, and disorientation. Despite running multiple tests including blood tests, a CT scan, and an MRI scan, the doctor did not diagnose the stroke or refer the man to a neurologist. The man is now suing the doctor for negligence, medical malpractice and compensation for lost income and mental anguish.

· Many young people who go to the emergency room for stroke are misdiagnosed as having vertigo.

· An 18-year-old man who was rushed to the hospital with a stroke was diagnosed with alcohol intoxication.

· A middle-aged woman who complained of difficulty speaking was diagnosed with a seizure instead of a stroke.

· A 50-year-old woman sudden suffered from blurred vision, difficulty walking, muscle problems, and weakness on her left side. Her doctor diagnosed her with an inner ear disorder instead of a stroke.
