Are there regulations governing how many hours a truck driver can work in a 24 hour period?

A: Yes!  Driver fatigue is a dangerous situation that is the cause of way too many trucking accidents.

In 2003, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) instituted new hours of service regulations in an effort to help truckers’ problems with fatigue.  While these laws have helped reduce the number of accidents, driver fatigue is still a probable factor in 20-40% of truck crashes.
